The five daily prayers

Fajr is the dawn prayer before sunrise. Dhuhr is the midday prayer after the sun passes its highest point. Asr is the afternoon prayer, Maghrib begins at sunset, and Isha is the night prayer. Sunrise is shown separately in the overview; it is not a sixth obligatory prayer.

How times on this website are calculated

The MinSalah website obtains calculated times from AlAdhan. We use Muslim World League with a solar elevation of −18° for Fajr and −17° for Isha, plus angle-based adjustment at high latitudes. Calculation methods and local adjustments can produce different times, especially during Danish summers. These times may therefore differ from the display app or your mosque’s calendar.

Standard or Hanafi for Asr

Asr is calculated from the sun’s position and shadow length. Standard follows the calculation used in the Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali traditions. Hanafi normally gives a later Asr time. Choose the method you follow under Asr calculation in the prayer-time section.

City, date and daylight saving time

The sun’s position depends on where you are. Choose your city rather than using times from another part of Denmark. All times are displayed in Europe/Copenhagen with automatic daylight saving changes. The overview follows the current Danish date, even when you visit from another time zone. Use 7 days to plan the coming week.

Prayer time is not the same as iqamah

A calculated prayer time marks the start of the prayer’s time window. Iqamah is when congregational prayer begins in the mosque. There may be several minutes between them, and Friday prayer may follow a separate schedule. Follow your local mosque’s announced times when attending congregational prayer.

About the indicative Hijri date

The Islamic calendar follows the moon. The date on this website is calculated and may differ from local moon sightings. Follow your mosque or community’s announcements for Ramadan, Eid and other observances.
